Yea! I'm an Orphan

This week I am highlighting a book that will give you some idea of what life was like on the Lyon College grounds before Lyon.   If you want to see into another life, check out:  Yea! I'm an Orphan, by Ruth McCarson Bowen at the library.  Did you know that this property was the home of the Masonic Orphanage?  More than 500 children were fed and nurtured at this institution from  1909-1947.  Our own John Quincy Wolf was a trustee for this institution and many Batesville residents supported these kids. The masonic symbol can be found two places on campus that I know of.  The obvious one is this Marker placed by the Masons of Arkansas, located in front of the Nichols building.  The other one shown below was carved in a rock on this campus, by one of the teenagers at the home. Even more information can be found at the Old Independence Regional Museum.  What a great topic for a paper!
