This week the library is highlighting the works of George Chlebak, art professor emeritus of Lyon College, born 1936, died 2018. Professor Chlebak was an avid supporter of the library and presented us with two of his works. The first, called "Buffalo Point" is permanently displayed in the lobby. He was fascinated by the play of light on some cliffs on the Buffalo River, thus this painting.
The second piece, "Tomb It May Concern" has been with us for many years. It is actually a can crusher for recycling purposes. Mike Foote, our man of Lyon welded the metal parts. The way it works is a metal soft drink can is put in the receptacle and the black arms are lowered, crushing the can. One can retrieve the can in the drawer below. Therefore, if you want to honor George's memory, come by with a can and crush it! This piece is located on the main floor on the North side toward the back of the building.
