How often does a library find a print from a California artist in its art collection that has such strong ties to Lyon College?

Read below about yet another Maxfield who excelled in their field.  The college and Batesville are very grateful for the contributions of the Maxfield family.

Jeannette Maxfield Lewis:  Etcher, engraver, and painter whose work can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Library of Congress, The New York Public Library, Oakland Art Museum, and the California State Library.  Studied at the California School of Fine Arts, studied with Gottardo Piazzoni; school of Northern California artists in the early 1900s and Armin Hansen; en plein air school.

Now here is where it gets interesting. Jeannette has strong ties to Batesville and Lyon College. Mary Maxfield, Lewis’ aunt,  was one of the first three women in Arkansas to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from Lyon (Arkansas) College.  Theodore Maxfield, one of her uncles, gave more than 50 years of service as a trustee to Arkansas College, starting in the year 1875. And there's more but it's too long to include here.

This print is now on display as well as a photo portrait of Jeannette Maxfield Lewis.  Her bio can be found at several websites including the one below.
