Welcome to the Office of International Education: Programs

Information on the Office of International Education at Lyon College
International Education at Lyon College currently consists of three components, two already in place and one in the planning stages. These components are study abroad, the Travel Program, and the ESL program. Study abroad opportunities at Lyon are currently offered either as exchanges, or study abroad sites controlled by third parties such as CONAHEC, or they are offered as Lyon College study abroad sites. Overseas travel at the moment only occurs as two-week trips in May or early June. The ESL Program for international students has not yet been implemented.

Study abroad at Lyon is defined as credit-bearing foreign study lasting from one month to a full academic year. Currently Study abroad is available in three forms- international exchange programs, study in third-party provider programs, and study in a designated Lyon College study abroad center. To be eligible for study abroad a student must have accumulated at least 60 credits, have a GPA of 3.00 or better (2.5 for Travel courses), and have submitted a completed Lyon College study abroad application packet, including the required recommendation from his/her advisor. If you plan to study abroad, it is best to save some of your general education credits for use overseas, as it is always easier to find classes in such areas as language, art, and culture at overseas universities and it makes perfect sense to study such subjects in an international environment. Also, plan to study abroad as early as possible so that, if anything goes wrong, you will still have the opportunity to reschedule.
