Kanopy is a streaming media service provided for the Lyon Campus. There are two kinds of films that faculty can purchase for their classes. The first is PDA: patron driven acquisition. That means you automatically purchase the title after 4 plays of 30 seconds or more. The typical title costs 150.00. The second type is called Mediated. That means the librarians have to purchase the film for you to ensure it is for class use only. Mediated films are recognized by the pop-up submission form when you click the play button. If you really want the film for class, fill out the form, submit it, and allow at least 2 days for us to get it active for your use. We'll contact you when it's ready. The collections used frequently are set as PDA and collections used less are Mediated.
Once triggered at the 4th view of a title for more than 30 seconds, Lyon College has unlimited viewing access to the film for 12 months. Below are the titles Lyon College has purchased over the past 12 months and will not trigger a charge to our library.
Click this Spreadsheet to view Lyon College Kanopy purchases. These lists can be generated as needed, just let us know and we'll send you one.
Kanopy films are available to Lyon College students, staff, and faculty through the Lyon Kanopy site. To log-in, you will be sent to the authentication page and gain access with your Lyon College credentials. If faculty purchase specific films for courses, the titles are accessible to all Lyon College students, staff, and faculty. To share a link on your syllabus use the "share" option located below the film title.
When a clip or playlist is created, it has a unique URL and can be made public or kept private. The URL can be shared with others via email or otherwise, and there is a unique embed code for it as well. All clips and playlists will be saved on the platform for you under your profile, so that it is not lost and you can always revisit it (unless you manually delete the clip/playlist).
To select the clip that you want in your playlist, you can either:
- Click the player to start the film. When you want your clip to start, click "Capture" next to "Start Time". Then click "Capture" next to "Stop Time" when you want the clip to end.
- Enter in the timecodes manually.
Once you are happy with your clip, click "Save Clip"
Interlibrary Loan. For any items that we do not own, but you need for research, please fill out the ILL Request form that you see in the WorldCat search result for the item. Or email email@example.com with the bibliographic information on the item. Physical copies of books can be acquired for local faculty, staff and students. Only digital copies of articles can be acquired for non-locals. If retrieving a physical ILL item, we will allow your entrance to Anna’s office. Please return physical items to the book return in the breezeway.
Curbside pickup. We are implementing curbside pickup and books can be ordered for pickup at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll notify you when they are on the cart which will be rolled into the breezeway. They will already be checked out in your name and all you have to do is pick them up!
Returned books should be returned in the wall slot which is also in the breezeway entrance on the right when facing the library.
Use WorldCat Discovery to find most of what you'll need for your research needs. It's the search box in the upper left corner! If that doesn't work, try the A-Z blue box.
Reserves. Because of Covid the reserve collection has been disbanded for this academic year. Please check with the librarians if you need to order an ebook or streaming media. Additionally, documents can be scanned and links loaded into Schoology.
